Finally after several trips to the polyclinic and countless blood tests, the doc announced that there is no more need for us to follow up on the jaundice level for Delan. It is now < 100 point.
HOORAY! Delan is gaining weight and has actually given me a lot of confidence for breastfeeding - I suppose only he + mum has supported me in giving breast milk.
In his small ways (gaining weight), Delan has given me a boost of confidence everytime doc/nurse asked if he is on total breastfeeding. I am so proud everytime I answered to the doc question... "Yes he is on breastfeeding"
I know Ben in his little actions do not approved of total breastfeeding... He has hinted for me to do it for only 1.5 months and to switch to formulas. I have been thinking of it as well...
Breastfeeding (100% pumping) is indeed very very tiring... especially when he feeds every 2-3 hours. First, we have to feed him using the bottle (burp/feed, burp/feed) takes approx. 30-40 mins, then I need to pump out (20 mins)..after 1 hour, the cycle repeats itself.
People tend to have the misconception that formulas will last longer and thus time spent feeding the baby will be shorter. Seriously I dont think so. If I switch to formulas, the only time i save is the pumping time.
Haiz... I am still thinking what is best solution to this....

Charlene invited to birthday party
Charlene has a close friend in the school. Her name is Qian Ning. To be very frank, I cannot put a face to this name.. and kinda of felt guilty. Have never paid much attention to the friends she have in school. She came back one day telling me that Qian Ning has invited her to her birthday party on Sat... usually, I would not want to go to such gathering... but reckon I need to spend more "alone" time with this lady. So, it was decided that we will attend Qian Ning's birthday bash.
Managed to find time today, got mum to help look after Delan and both Charlene and I went to Lot One to get Qian Ning a birthday gift. Brought Charlene along so she can have the "responsibility" of getting a gift for her friend. She is very excited about it. Got Qian Ning a Barbie Doll.. she initially wanted to buy something that costs about S$40 - told her that it is too expensive, ended up with something that is approx S$15. A disco Barbie.

The arrival of Dino...
Did not have the time to post as was trying to establish breastfeeding...
Dino was induced in week 38 as he was getting huge (3.5 kgs as at 07/09/09)... MIL was asking me to "wait till the 7th lunar month" was over, so she wasnt very pleased when was being told that Dino needs to be delivered during the Ghost month...
Since we have the choice to induce, I was actually looking at delivering on 09/09/09.. however, the auspicious date calculated was actually 08/09/09 (after 3pm)
No choice.. have to go into the hospital on 08/09/09. Anticipated that it will take abt 2-3 hours for me to deliver the baby.
Doc broke the water bag at 1430hrs... nothing happened till 2000hrs... no choice but to put me on drip to increase the contractions. The real contractions came and epidural was called for... doc advised not to have the epidural since the contractions will most probably last only 30 mins... was then pushed into the labour ward. I insisted on having the epidural (luckily i did, contractions lasted for another 3 hours).
Delan was delivered on
09/09/09 (0008hrs)
weighs 3.685 kgs
Height 52 cm

@ Week 37
Only 3 more weeks to go...
Have been feeling the contractions in the night... walking has become extremely difficult.
Wonder whether it is because age is catching up? I was walking a lot more when I had Brandon and Charlene... luckily this is my last one..
Went to see Adrian this morning... Dino is now 3.05 kgs. He was only 2.7 kgs about 1.5 weeks ago. 300gms within 1.5 weeks... if everything goes well - Dino will be 3.3 by week 38/39... this is pretty close to what Brandon/Charlene was when they were born
Since yesterday, was having the urge to poo poo (5 times in 2 days). Wonder whether this is the onset of labour?
Still thinking of names for Dino
(百炳元/ 百炳文)/ English - Dalen, Brayden?

Totally frustrated
Day started badly.
Last nite, specifically told Doisa to prepare breakfast for 3 people. (Ham & Cheese sandwich for Bro, Be and myself).
0530hrs, heard that she was cooking in the kitchen - everything seems going according to plans. Work up @0600, first thing she told me, Bro took all 3 portions of breakfast... how can someone be so muddle head? take 3 portions of breakfast without checking and asking? No more bread left, so ask her to steam some buns for us to take to office.
Next, Charlene.... she was so slow in taking her breakfast today. Have to grumble, nag, scold before she took a small bite and swallow... what is wrong with this young lady? have to nearly "force" her to take her food regardless of whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner.
She is making me like a old lady nagging over the simplest thing everyday..
Just when we were about to leave the house, saw that Doisa has changed Charlene into her uniforms - asked if she has taken her cod liver oil... no... don't have a good feeling when she gave Charlene her cod liver oil. 1 small mouthful and she vomited everything that she took in the morning.
ARRHHHH, this girl really knows how to do things at the right time. Changed her quickly and went down stairs as Ben is waiting for us... We are already late.
In the car, talked to Charlene about her behaviour - told her that it is unacceptable. Then suddenly remember, SHIT, I forgot my own breakfast... so, not a good start at work, no breakfast to eat!!
When I came back last nite from shopping, I was being told by mum that Doisa was napping at the couch. Then she started comparing Rowena and Doisa again... these days, everyone wants to compare the 2... everyone thinks that Rowena is good.. I have to explain that Rowena was here for nearly 2 years, got a lot of feedback before she gotten to the state she was in before she left.. after 2 years, she was still not good @ personal hygiene and cooking, only good @ housekeeping. Doisa has only been here for 3 weeks - give her some time lah.. these people only want to tell the maid good things, I ask Doisa to mop the floor using cloth, Mum says too tedious, ask her to use mop instead... then start to complain to me that she nap in the afternoon. Asking her to mop the floor using cloth is one way of keeping her occupied. If we choose to let her take the easy way out, then how can we blame her for not having anything to do by mid-day?
Then its about food, tell me that Doisa knows how to choose what she wants to eat, ate the entire mango while Rowena would have taken the centre portion and leave some mango for the kids. Hello, who is the one that told Doisa that she can take everything she wants from the fridge? I never told her that she can take anything she wants from the fridge. It was mum, now she is complaining to me that she took what was meant for the children...
Maids are like that, don't expect them to take the initiative to save the good food for the children. They need to be told what they can or cannot do. Everyone wants to be nice, no one wants to tell the maid what is the proper way to act. Then start telling me that she didn't do this, didn't do that...
AARH... why am I feeling so stress and frustrated? I have thinking about the baby, hope he is growing fine, think about sleeping arrangement when baby arrives, think about Brandon's Primary One registration, think about how to train new maid, think about work, think about how to tell the maid what to do when at MIL place, think think think... have also been throwing things away to make way for baby, i kinda of feel stressed cramping up in that small room... its like a small warehouse with things everywhere....I felt that I am a grumpy old lady... and I don't want to be so...so from now on, I will just do my things - don't expect anything from anyone... they can leave in their own way...

Day off
Day off today, with no MEETINGS planned...
Made arrangement to go for facial with Ben.. he had the chance to go for a 90min massage + steam bath. Me not so lucky, beautician and massasue both on leave, so have to get someone totally new for facial. (not that she did a bad job... it was ok)
Ate Swensen's for lunch (1-for-1)... would say it was a good deal... S$29 for 2 pax (with drinks + soup)
Went to Kaki Bukit - learnt from forum that they have baby stuff selling cheap... was disappointed to see the lack of range. Kiddy Palace would have been better. Ben wanted to head home after the shopping, but I wanted to continue.. so dropped off at Lot 1 and bought more baby stuff there... applied for the VIP card so I get to enjoy 10% off. Its definetly better than going to Kakit Bukit.
Been there... done that!
Came home, cooked for the children (Fried Rice)... Brandon requested for it this morning...
After dinner, finally got the 2 men in the house to help clean up the store room... managed to at least identify what are the things we need to give or throw.
Dont think Mum is happy we are trying to get her to throw things out... but she has not been using the agar agar tray nor cake tins for a few years now... and I dont suppose she has the time in the future... so, off goes the utensils.

Week 30 - the final leg
Haven been blogging - was kept busy at work and at home
Meanwhile, got a new maid (has been with us for 3 weeks now).. she is definitely smarter than Rownena... def provides a new set of issues. She is 24 years old, Doisa, collage student, we have no problems in communicating our instructions to her. Has 2 girls age 4 & 2 and has 2 sisters working in SG a couple of years now.
She was able to finish her household tasks at about 1500 hrs everyday... so she asked if she can on the TV... I didn't kind of reply, will give her a formal reply if she asked again... do you think we can watch TV @ work even though we have nothing to do? She does not like to go HV for additional household chores... We used to pay Rowena about S$5/week to help out on household chores whenever we are at Holland. For Diosa, the S$5 is not motivating enough. She prefers not to go there and even asked if she can stayed at home while we go... she was not given the choice...we don't have choice as daughter/son-in-law, less say a maid!
While we will have to wait to see if she is able to cope when the baby comes.. if she gives me problems in terms of wanting off days - then I will have no qualms abut asking her to go.
I have specifically told her in the interview process that she is not allowed to take off days during her first 2 years... and again emphasize this point when she arrived. BTW, having finished her tasks at about 1500hrs, she has got more free time than me... if I am not complaining, she should not as well.
If she don't like the agreement, she can always find another employer.. maybe an expatriate family will be better for her.

Fan Blade spin off during sleep
I was awoken by a huge noise that came from my fan - sat up and saw the cover of the fan on the floor, one of the blades gone (spilt up into 3 small pieces; landed about 1 meter from where I slept)
I was very shocked and angry as the blade could have landed on Ben/me or any of the 2 children if they are sleeping with me – and it could happen in the middle of the night when we are all in deep sleep.
The immediate thought that came to my mind was Rowena has cleaned the fan too often (once a week) – removing each part to soak/wash. The parts were assembled without making sure that they are completely dry; thus causing rust. When she turned the knob on the blades, she used too much strength and the knob cracked causing the blade to spin off. She did not inform us of the crack caused she thought nothing of it.
The last incident with we had with fan happened when she was cleaning all the fans at the same time and she mixed up the knobs while assembling the fans parts. The fan in mum’s room was making a lot of noise whenever she on it. We thought that it has reached its life span and is about to threw it away when we decide to check it further…..only to find out that she had mix up the knobs :0(
With this incident, she has helped me made up my mind that she is not the maid I want when my baby is around.
Ben keeps telling me that I should not show my displeasure with her… as she could easily poison our food if she is not happy with us or when I scold her…
OK, I will not show my displeasure with her anymore… I WILL TOLERATE until I get a new maid (mid August) so the maid will come before my baby is due and will at least have 1 month with the confinement lady.
You may ask why not change her now when I am not happy with her performance now?
疑人不用,用人不疑
I will be travelling extensively for the next 2-3 months and I don't wan to risk having a new maid when I am not around – the new maid will pick up habits which I don't like. So, I prefer to be around when the new maid is there….

Starting to worry again
There are a couple of things on my mind right now....
1. Is fetus alright? (haven been able to sense heartbeat for the last 2-3 days)
2. What am I going to do with Rowena?
a. Is she able to cope with looking after 1 more baby (no prior experience). She has been pretty careless and forgetful these days... First left scissors on the table, Charlene was playing with it, reminded her not to do it again, found scissors on table yesterday morning again... told her to be careful as there are children around... today, found knife on the same spot...
*** faint***
and Charlene was just 1m away from the spot. When I spotted the knife, I was really angry... Charlene then say, "Mummy, its OK - I did not touch it"
Ben told me "You cannot give her last min instructions to prepare breakfast, you need to give her ample time, you know she cant handle last min things, so when you asked for breakfast in the last min, you cant blame her for forgetting to put the knife away".... just wondering will baby gives her "ample" time to do things...will baby knew what to touch & what not to touch?
Everything about baby is impromptu... will she be able to cope... this matter has been on my head since I knew I was pregnant... she has managed to reduced my boiling point to a new low level these days...
b. Body odour
because of her size and because she don't change her clothes often enough, she tends to have body odour (this is more apparent after she comes back from the market or doing some housework). I cannot picture her carrying baby
My concerns were not felt the same way @ home... so, there is no people around to share my thoughts.. perhaps she is able to handle housework + children becos the children are at school from 7am to 7pm... will she be able to do the same with the arrival of the baby?????
Are I just paranoid, or are there real concerns?

@ 9 weeks
It was a difficult day at the office - the notice on retrenchment for my dept came on Monday (16-Feb). I have to give a name. The name was confirmed yesterday and today, was told that D-day is Monday (23-Feb)
I thought I had till 27-Feb to think on how to approach the subject, now I only have a weekend. Everything seems to happen so fast.
Today, I also announced the news of my pregnancy to my colleagues, boss and family even before I get to see the doc in the evening. Its kinda of couragous i would say.. what happens if we cant hear the heartbeat again? NVM lah, first thing first.
Gynea check went fine! Baby is now 2.46cm long and is abt 9 weeks...
Hope everything will be fine in the coming weeks...
Baby, be strong. Everything will work out fine when you are out!
Love mummy....
